Welcome to LTU's Campaign Against Job Exports News headlines: Bank Announces Closure Of Mumbai Call Centre Protest Held In Peterborough Against Service Centre Closure Scottish Widows ANnounces 94 More Jobs Going To India Lloyds TSB is just one in a long line of UK companies moving work and jobs to India, to cut costs at the expense of British jobs and the UK economy. In the first planned wave of exports, the Bank has announced the closure of its Newcastle call centre with the loss of 960 jobs. More recently, the Bank has sought to obscure the impact of its offshoring policy through a process known as 'offshoring by proxy'; whereby UK service centres are closed and the work is transferred to other sites where surplus staff capacity is made available as a consequence of staff transferring to India. The most recent example of this was when the Bank announced it was closing a Service Centre in Peterborough with the loss of 243, whilst on the same day also saying it was transferring a further 400 jobs to India. Its denial that the two announcements were connected stretched any bounds of credibility! In a members survey, over 90% of LTU members expressed their opposition to the outsourcing of jobs to India or anywhere else where the main motive is the use of cheap labour to the detriment of British jobs and they cast doubt on whether customers would support the move. We believe most customers will be worried about the security and service implications of their accounts being managed in the third world. But they will also see that moving banking jobs to overseas competitors is not in the interests of anyone working or living in the UK. And whether the Bank is concerned about staff views or not it should be thinking about customer reaction to any move abroad. Over 400,000 Lloyds TSB customers so far have signed an LTU petition against job exports and we're confident that the number will rise to at least 500,000. UK business, including Lloyds TSB, will ignore this level of consumer opposition at their peril. LTU’s campaign against job exports is moving into top gear and this site will give you more information on what we’re doing. Give us your support. |
