Chairman’s concern at foreign domination of British banking…
[16 Aug 2004]
LTU has criticised as double-standards recent comments by Maarten van den Bergh concerning restrictions on UK banks bidding to take over Abbey.

He believes that this could lead to domination of the high street by foreign banks and went on to ask… “Would British banking be best-served if it’s dominated by foreigners?”

Paradoxically, Lloyds TSB remains committed to off–shoring the jobs of UK-based staff to India in spite of very real opposition from customers, shareholders, staff and many politicians.

Commenting on this, Steve Tatlow, Assistant General Secretary said:

“It is rich that Lloyds TSB’s Board should complain that a UK bank could fall into foreign hands at the same time as it is transferring existing UK jobs to India. We believe that if the Bank is not stopped then up to 10,000 Lloyds TSB jobs could eventually be transferred to India.”
