Bournemouth 'Day of Action' Wins Massive Support
[15 Sep 2007]
A team from LTU was outside the Bank's Insurance Operation in Bournemouth handed 'Action Packs' to staff arriving at work. The packs contained guidance on how staff could help prevent local jobs being exported to India including petition forms and letters of protest that could be sent to local MPs and the Bank's Chief Executive.

Concern has been rising over the risk to jobs in Bournemouth especially following the Bank's announcement that 20 staff from Mumbai, India would be arriving in the week commencing 13th September to be trained by LTIDD staff.

Over 200 packs were distributed to staff and many took the opportunity to express their concerns to the Union over the potential loss of their work through offshoring.

Over the lunch period the Union also visited the local branch at Landsdowne Crescent, where nearly 300 customers signed a petition expressing their concerns and wishes for their accounts to be handled within the UK.

Media interest in Bournemouth was high, with reports on concerns over the potential loss of local jobs appearing in news items across all local media.

The local radio stations - Fire FM, 2CR Wave FM and BBC Radio Solent - all carried items on their news bulletins and the Bournemouth Daily Echo carried a major article. Meridian TV again mentioned the protest on its morning bulletin.

LTU also understands that the local Member of Parliament, Sir John Butterfill, has written to the Group Chief Executive and the Bournemouth Echo indicating support for our campaign.
