LTU Clarifies UNIFI Confusion Over Job Security Claims…
[22 Dec 2003]
In spite of recent local media reports there has not been a breakthrough in the campaign to prevent the closure of Lloyds TSB’s Newcastle Call Centre.
The Facts:- The Centre is still scheduled to close and all 960 jobs are likely to be lost as a result.
- Lloyds TSB has not guaranteed that all staff working in the Centre will be offered new posts in other areas of the bank.
- They have certainly not been guaranteed job offers in the Newcastle area.
- Lloyds TSB has not made any guarantees that there will be no compulsory redundancies.
- The work will be transferred to India.
Lloyds TSB briefed the Financial Times by saying:- The Bank is not guaranteeing that there will be no compulsory redundancies.
- Whilst the Bank says other jobs may be offered, it acknowledges that these could be in another part of the country and gives no guarantee that they will be of a suitable type. So an offer to a Newcastle call centre operator of a cleaner’s job in Truro would be enough to meet the Bank’s undertaking.
LTU’s campaign will continue unabated.
