<<< back Campaign Moves On To Birmingham… [22 Jan 2004] LTU campaign teams travelled to the Midlands this week and received strong support from customers in Sheldon and Dudley. BBC “Midlands Today” filmed campaigners and interviewed Assistant General Secretary Nick Holt plus a number of Bank customers. Local press and radio also provided extensive coverage. In Sheldon the Bank has a service centre where over 550 staff deal with ‘back office’ processing and in Dudley it employs over 450 staff dealing with customer enquiries. LTU believes that these 1000 jobs are at risk from the Bank’s plans to export jobs overseas. Almost without exception customer reaction was strongly in favour of LTU’s campaign and many pointed out their opposition to higher profits being made at the expense of UK jobs. <<< back |
